Influencer Campaign Brief Malaysia: Template & Checklist

A complete brief structure creators can understand without manual follow-up—from objective and claims to revisions and rights.

A clear influencer campaign brief in Malaysia should let a creator understand the work without a manual WhatsApp explanation. It must be specific enough to protect facts and deadlines, but open enough for the creator to sound like themselves. Use this structure for KOL, KOC, UGC, affiliate and Threads campaigns.

Start with a one-page decision brief

Lead with the information a creator needs to decide: brand and product, audience, objective, deliverable, platform, compensation, location or shipping requirement, key dates and eligibility. Keep confidential product knowledge behind creator confirmation where necessary, but do not hide the workload or payment structure.

Mandatory information

  1. Objective: one primary outcome, written in plain language.
  2. Audience: who they are, their problem and relevant market.
  3. Single message: what the audience should remember.
  4. Deliverable: platform, format, quantity, duration or structure.
  5. Product facts: approved evidence and correct terminology.
  6. Prohibited claims: especially health, financial and guaranteed-result language.
  7. Creative direction: angle options, references and what not to copy.
  8. Timeline: acceptance, product receipt, draft, revision and publication.
  9. Evidence: link, screenshot and analytics checkpoints.

Advertising Standards Malaysia says objectively ascertainable claims should be capable of substantiation. Link the supporting material inside the brief rather than asking creators to retrieve it from a chat history; see the Malaysian advertising code.

Write platform-specific instructions

  • TikTok/Reels: hook, safe-zone needs, duration, audio, caption and disclosure.
  • Threads: post or thread structure, tone, disclosure, link and reply expectations—never call it a video.
  • UGC asset: orientation, raw or edited output, hooks, shots, audio and file delivery.
  • Affiliate: product anchor, code or link, commission context and prohibited promises.
  • On-site: date, guest allowance, included value, contact, filming permission and travel.

TikTok requires its commercial content disclosure when a post promotes a brand for payment or another incentive; its official instructions also explain brand-partner tagging and ad authorisation.

Rights, revisions and payment

State the base creator payout and any barter value separately. Define how many revision rounds are included and distinguish correction of a missed requirement from a new creative direction. Specify ownership, organic reuse, paid usage, whitelisting, raw files, duration, territory and exclusivity. Never assume that a posting fee buys perpetual advertising rights. Make the approval workflow visible

Name the reviewer and expected response time. Creators should receive a clear notification when changes are requested, see the reason, submit an amended draft and know which version is current. The brand should see counts for pending drafts, approved drafts and published links. If a campaign is self-serve, say who makes the final decision; if it is managed, say what the operations team handles.
